Taking time to reflect and check in on how they’re feeling is another important part of helping family caregivers avoid burnout. It’s not unusual for family caregivers to keep going, pushing themselves harder and harder, even if they don’t feel well and need time away. Getting those reflections out on paper in a journal or even through talking about how they’re feeling helps them to notice the impact those feelings have on their ability to cope.
Being a family caregiver is both a massive responsibility and something that they want to do for someone they love. But with the help of respite care, it’s much easier for family caregivers to keep going and offer all the help to the seniors they love that they can.
